Thursday, October 17, 2002 - Learn About Sun Microsystems' Latest Work In Symmetrical MultiProcessor Interconnects featuring Andy Phelps.

Join your colleagues at the next meeting of The San Diego Chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), featuring Andrew Phelps of Sun Microsystems talking about Sun's new Symmetric Processor Interconnect.

Abstract

High bandwidth, low latency, and cache coherency are the goals of an SMP (Symmetric Multi-Processor) interconnect. This talk will describe Sun's SMP servers and the principles behind their interconnects, including that of Sun's largest server, the hundred-processor Sun Fire 15K "Starcat".

Bio:

Andy Phelps received a B.A. in computer science from UCSD in 1979. He has since then worked on a variety of computer designs, including a Cray-compatible mini-supercomputer at the San Diego startup Scientific Computer Systems, the SS-1 supercomputer at Supercomputer Systems Inc., and the T-90 at Cray Research. He joined Sun in 1996 via Sun's aquisition of Cray's San Diego server group. He is a Distinguished Engineer at Sun, having worked on architecture of the Starfire, Starcat, and their follow-on systems.
