Summary:
Dan Copley gave a riveting lecture on the organization and capabilities
of the Xilinx embedded processors. He outlined their evolution from
the early FPGA products through the current generation, which also includes
various flavors of serial ports, memory, electrical interfaces, and
entire (multiple) Power PC processors. Clearly, these parts are amazingly
versatile! Dan also brought a number of development systems, and was
still demonstrating to interested audiences long after the presentation
was complete.
Abstract
Xilinx is a leading developer
and provider of embedded processor-based technology. Dan's presentation
will explain how using an embedded processor in a system design can
yield superior performance at a lower cost point than many alternatives.
Xilinx produces a number of lines of embedded processors, including
the Virtex and the Microblaze -- all with development tools that make
a very real possibility for use in complex systems.
