Learn about the Evolution of Distributed Computing through
Platform LSF -- the LAN to the Grid
Thursday, January 16
6:30 P.M. - 8:00 P.M.
Join your colleagues at the next meeting of The San Diego Chapter of
the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), featuring Ian
Lumb, Platform
Computing Inc.'s technology evangelist for Grid
Computing. He'll be outlining the history of grid computing and
its relationship to the Load Sharing Facility.
We will meet at 6:30PM at a very special venue: the GlobusWorld Annual
conference at the Hilton
San Diego Resort.
The meeting cost is $3 (free to SDACM Chapter members) and is open
to the public. For more information, call (858) 452-8701.
We are extremely pleased to have GlobusWorld's
and Platform Computing's assistance for this event, and very excited
to have Mr. Lumb speaking.
Bring your colleagues and friends to this don't-miss event -- we hope
to see you there!
To RSVP, e-mail
us or call (858) 452-8701. Please RSVP by Jan 15.
Abstract:
Mr. Lumb's company, Platform Computing, began life as an early pioneer
in remote sensory agents built on UNIX's remote execution service, allowing
for
intelligent load placement decisions. Almost two decades later, the
service has blossomed into their flagship product, Platform LSF (Load
Sharing Facility).
Platform's core competence is in scheduling workloads across highly
heterogeneous distributing computing environments. In June of 2002,
Platform released a completely re-architected version of LSF that incorporated
twenty years of learning and problem space definition, allowing more
efficient and effective implementation of Grid Computing scenarios and
leading to several new Grid-level scheduling policies.
This presentation traces out the trajectory that spans from two systems
on an isolated LAN to thousands of systems on The Grid.
