Barry Demchak Bio
Barry Demchak has been active in the computer software industry since
1971. He started as a systems programmer enhancing Hewlett Packard’s
timesharing system, the first commercial minicomputer-based timeshare
system. Since then, he has combined both his programming and business
skills to create two different software consulting companies and a software
product company. Barry has done leading edge work on most major computing
technologies, including operating systems, compilers, device drivers,
language design, networks, databases, graphics, and communications.
He is also an experienced project manager, consultant to management,
and expert witness.
Barry is a graduate of the University of California, San Diego, and
is active in numerous professional organizations, including the Corporate
Directors Forum, the San Diego Software Industry Council, and the San
Diego Chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM co-chair).
His current company, Torrey Pines Software, was founded in 1987 and
is located in La Jolla, California. It has performed system architecture
and design, software project management, acquisitions evaluation, and
programming services for its clients, including: AT&T, Sterling
Software (now Computer Associates), Orban (Harmann International), Symantec,
Harcourt Brace, Berkeley Process Control, and Digital Descriptor Systems.
